Robin Williams: Gone at 63
I find myself somewhere between obligated to make this post, wanting to make it, and tempted to bow to silence as the question is not something anyone will have a satisfactory answer to. Robin Williams. Putting aside the enormous pleasure he gave me and the entire world as an individual, why? Not "why did he do it?", I'm sure after putting up with life's difficulties for 63 years he must have had pretty good reasons to bow out, but why are any of us still on this stupid race? This pointless grab for money, success, status, power? If after 'making it' someone as seemingly luminous and untouchable as Williams says 'enough is enough', what hope is there for the rest of us? Is fame, fortune and influence really as cracked up as it seems, or are we all better off chucking it in, joining a monastery and finding enlightenment within? What are we buying into, and is it worth it?
